Contest - 2022
Description:
The project refurbishes a former rail yard used for train maintenance. Due to the roof’s extensive glazing, meeting current climate standards through full triple glazing was impractical. Instead, a nested “house-within-a-house” strategy was developed.
The Architect:
Julian Breinersdorfer Architekten is an architectural practice founded in 2010 in Berlin. The firm’s work centers on redeveloping and reimagining existing urban buildings and environments, with an emphasis on historic industrial structures, sustainability and integrating contemporary architecture within historical contexts.
